Halloween

Hi everyone! I just wanted to fill you in on Halloween 2010!

I went as Dracula as you can see from the pictures. I went with my frend Abby who was Alice from Alice in Wonderland. We got quite a bit of candy and did some trading. Ariana went as a witch and her friend Ashley was the Grim Reeper.

We also carved pumpkins(Sorry, I don't have any pictures from that.)! Mine was a pirate and Ariana's was a scared person. In short, this was a very fun year! I think I might be a zombie next year...

Harriet the Spy review

Hello followers! I have decided that every book I finish, I will review on here!

Today I just finished Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. You've probably read it since it was published in 1964. Anyway, it's split up into 3 parts. Here they are:

  1. Part 1: This part is about getting to know Harriet and what she does(spy on people). She loves to write and since her family is very rich, she goes to private school. Her nanny, Ole Golly(This is just what Harriet calls her. Her real name is Catherine Golly.), takes care of here very well, as proved in one chapter where Harriet's mother wants her to go to dancing school, but Harriet hates the mere thought of it. Then Ole Golly talks to her and says that girl spies have to know how to dance in order to disguise themselves at parties they're spying at. Harriet comes back into the dining room where her parents are and says something like, "I'd LOVE to go!" and Mr. Welsh(Harriet's father) says "That Miss Golly works wonders!" At the end of this part Ole Golly has to leave because as Harriet knows she has a boyfriend who is now her fiance. She wants to move to Montreal with him and thinks that since Harriet is eleven, she doesn't need a nanny.
  2. Part 2: I just want warn you ahead of time that this part is good, but is VERY DEPRESSING!!! If you don't think you can handle it, just put the book down and walk away. At the beginning of this part Harriet feels sad Ole Golly is gone. Then she loses her notebook that her class finds and reads. The notebook has lots of mean things about them, they stop being friends with her. They even steal her tomato sandwich she was going to eat at lunch. Later Harriet spies on them and realizes they've started a club against her. She suddenly feels very lonely and skips school for a while. She is forced to come back, but since she doesn't have any friends, she constantly writes in her notebook and doesn't do any work. Mrs. Welsh realizes that she is doing horribly in school(even English!) so she takes her notebook away from her. Harriet doesn't have anyway to express herself, so she becomes a very dull person. Suddenly, all that dullness turns to meanness. She insults people, pinches and trips them, and she even cuts a chuck of one girls hair out! She has to see a psychologist. But he doesn't really act like one. He dresses like a clown and plays Monopoly with Harriet. He likes to take notes like Harriet and gives her a notebook to write in and Harriet gets so immersed in it that before long she has to go. Mrs. Welsh takes the notebook away, but Harriet still feels better.
  3. Part 3: Harriet visits her ex-friends to try to make up. Janie still hates her, but Sport(real name: Simon) kind of wants to be her friend. When she spys on the club, which Harriet's rival Marion Hawthorne ruins by making everyone play Bridge, Sport and Janie quit which makes most everyone quit. The rest you'll have to read to find out!

I really liked this book, except Part 2 was a little too sad, but I really liked how the author told us something about the characters at the beginning and mentions it throughout the book, but doesn't take the time to explain every time. I think if you like stories about friendship or like to hear about the main character's thoughts, this is the book for you!

Reading

Before, I didn't like reading. I thought it was just a conversation except only one talker. Now, since my new teacher Miss Cordsen incorporates reading a lot, I've been doing much more. Reading is good for your imagination, trying to figure out what the characters and scene look like, and it's just amusing imagining someone finding the true meaning of something important, or learning something useful. I love books where you root for the characters and when they're struggling you are on the edge of tears. It's like reading opened up a whole new world to me, not only mentally, but I feel stronger on the outside too(especially when I get that tingly feeling after I finish a really good book.). If you feel the way I do or the complete opposite, please comment.

Imagination

Everyone thinks I'm powerless, just because I'm a kid. I hate that and I'd do anything to change it. Because I'm different in more ways than I can imagine;than anyone can. I think I just have in over-active imagination.

I've always tried to be different in every way. What's the point in being the same. It's bland and there’s no variety whatsoever.

I like things that are abstract and colorful, full of life and wonder! I should write a book like that. About nonsense and just plain fun chocked full of imagination and dreams; things that I've always loved.

To me, we would be no where without imagination. For example, artichokes. Only a truly quirky person would eat a thistle! Or new theories, ideas and inventions popping into peoples’ brains all the time every day!

Another key factor is curiosity. No one would have discovered anything if we just sat around, scared of what might be around the corner. Always in constant fear of every rock, leaf, or even every substance on Earth. As I finish this post think about how lucky we are to have imagination, curiosity, and quirkiness.

Science Fair

For a few weeks I've been working on my Science Fair project. It's called Edison and Einstein. Here are some pictures!

Writing

Writing is an interesting, wonderful, amusing source worldwide. People don't get very far without learning to write, and when they do learn they have to learn to write good. Writing is one of the best ways to get famous and have fun! But people need to have passion. People need to write with a reason. I write blogs and stories to amuse people. What about you?
Good writing grabs people. It makes people feel like they're really there! Either in astorm on an old ship or sneaking through an old man's garden. But if you're not a writer, don't fret! There are many opportunities! JUST FAMILY, FREINDS, AND STRANGERS, READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ideas

Sorry for not writing in SO long.

Ideas are interesting things. Anyone can think of one, but only some can think of good ones. We forget the bad ones and even the good ones and never see them again. But if you're wise you'll write them down, but if your not wise, you don't care about ideas and force them out of your mind; even the good ones.
They are key components of writing, so try to not forget about them(they're everywhere).

Music

February 15:
Today I've been thinking about music.
It reminds me about my post about love because music and love are closely linked. though the world would survive without music, yet it would be quite different. Most of what people think about is music. There's music in stores, homes, and even inside our minds. Many people have a song in their head, or are thinking of a song. People even write songs so their song is the one in people's heads.
Singing is also a big part of it. Though, that's one of the parts that most people aren't good at. But what makes me really angry is when peple use technology to make them sound better.
Well, it's their loss. It doesn't matter. But what does matter is that we embrace music while we have it.

Love

February 14:
Since it's Valentine's day, I've been thinking about love.
It's all around us. Anyone can, and everyone should. Even animals do. And it's not just loving someone;it's loving something. A hand-crafted doll,to a cuddly pet. Eco-friendly people like me love the Earth, and the trees, the animals and the soil. What would the world be without love? Why, a cruel, cruel place. The Earth probably wouldn't even survive without love, because no one would love it. So family, friends, strangers, remember to love. Keep your heart open for it and love with all of it.

My Storys

February 14:
Today is a legendary day because I'm finally brave enough to tell people about the books I'm writing.

Sarah the Sailor:

This book takes place in 1961-1963. It's about a 22 year-old African-American woman who was kidnapped from her home in Montgomery, Alabama at 13. She was taken in as a slave, but one night escapes on a boat she made. She finds a deserted island, and calls it her own. 1 year later a kind man named Charles shows up. The 2 quickly fall in love. Then after 1 more year a woman whose Sarah's twin shows up. Her name is Emily. One day the kidnappers show up, and force Sarah to join the army! Her new found friends help her on their way back home. Soon afterward they discover people invaded the island! Sarah, Charles, and Emily escape back to Alabama.

28 Miracles:

This book takes place 1100-1101. It's about 28 kids whose parents(the king and queen) have been murdered! They escape England and discover America! There learn how to survive and later build a town. They decide to head back to England to tell everyone about their discovery, when instead they solve the murder mystery!

Thanks for listening!

My writing

February 14:
So I've been starting some storys in my free time(when I'm not writing blogs). I'm interested in that kind of stuff. I enjoy writing. I can just let out all my thoughts. I'm kind of the expressive kind of gal so writing suits me well. I hope to become a famous author. My english teachers, and my parents think I'm good and I hope they're right!
I like writing historical fiction and I like reading fantasy. I'm quite dreamy, but sometimes I can't focus because of that! I'm in the school newspaper at my school, and I'm a quick reader. I was destined to be a writer! Or at least a critic of books. I also like singing Taylor Swift. But writing is my main passion.

Valentine's Day

February 14
Today I celebrated Valentine's Day with my family. I opened some presents and got some cards. My dad's was quite extravagant as usual. He always makes it real big, and he uses shiny markers. And let me tell you he does not follow the rules!
My sister and I bickered as usual, since she's thinker, and I'm a feeler. She's mysterious, and keeps to herself, while I'm bubbly, and vivacious. I'm loud, and she's quiet. And they say opposites attract!
